The board of the Turku Art Society has chosen visual artist Antti Jussila as the next Henry Lönnfors studio artist. Jussila will have free access to the attic studio located in Puolalanpuisto for the years 2021–2023. According to Jaakko Ossa, Chairman of the Board of the Turku Art Society, Jussila’s practice and production insightfully reflect the development that has taken place within the visual arts. This vision and being bold in time must also be supported and made possible by the Art Society.
Antti Jussila’s (b. 1979) artistic work is multimedial and often based on collaboration. He has made experimental film, installations, performances and music in various ensembles. Regarding themes of the works, the ordinary is often mixed with sci-fi, fantasy, the fading areas of our perceptions, and aesthetic dead ends. Jussila works actively in the artist groups MSL, Anna Breu and Mörkrum. Their production has been seen both domestically and internationally. Jussila graduated as a visual artist from the Turku Arts Academy in 2007 and has actively influenced the Turku art field in Arte ry.
Every three years the board of the Turku Art Society selects an artist for the Henry Lönnfors Studio based on the applications. This year 34 applications were received. Jussila is now the sixth artist working in the studio.
According to the will of Henry Lönnfors (1939–2004), a long-term treasurer of the Turku Art Society, a studio bearing his name was established in 2004. Henry Lönnfors Studio is located in the heart of Turku in Puolalanpuisto park on the top floor of condominium Albatross. The studio with a kitchenette is about 30m² and is for work only, not for living.
Every three years the board of the Turku Art Society selects an artist for the Henry Lönnfors Studio based on the applications. All professional visual artists can apply for the studio. The selected artist will receive free access to the studio. Next application pediod will be in fall 2020.
