ROBERT DOISNEAU
9 June – 27 Aug 2017

TYKO SALLINEN
15 Sep 2017 – 7 Jan 2018

Tyko Sallinen (1879–1955) was a famous forerunner of Finnish modernism and expressionism. During 1910's his brushstrokes became particularly expressive at the same time when he also caused the first controversies in Finnish modernism with his works Pyykkärit (‘Washerwomen’) and Hihhulit (‘Fanatics’). The vivacious celebration of colour later changed to more broken, earthy tones but the form remained strong, particularly in his depiction of people. The exhibition is organised in cooperation with HAM Helsinki Art Museum.

Entitled Reconstruction, the work comments on the relations between trust and distrust, the problematics of public space, and dependencies and identity as aspects of collective culture.
